RAGLAN SHIPPING COMPANY.

On Friday last a meeting of those interested in establishing greater trade facilities for the Raglan district was held in the Council Chambers, Raglan. The attendance was not large, but it was representative. Amongst others there were present: Messrs Langley Bros., Rendell, Somerset, Revell, Wilson, Picken, Frissell, Wallis Bros., and C. Newton.—Mr T. B. Hill was called to the chair, and briefly explained why the meeting was held. —Mr Langley explained the various steps that had been taken in the matter, and stated that the movement had not originated out of opposition to the Northern Steam Shipping Company, but in a desire for regular communication, the opening up of fresh markets, cheaper freights, and the establishment of various local industries. These objects he thought would be gained by obtaining a boat, that would, more especially, give facilities for the working of the lime trade. —Mr Rendell endorsed what Mr Langley had said in regard to lime, and stated that his firm had gone to considerable expense in erecting kilns, &c, but found in consequence of the irregularity of steamers' visits they were unable to complete orders as required, in consequence of which they had to be cancelled. —It was finally decided to form a limited liability company, to be called the Raglan Shipping Company ; capital £500, in 1000 shares of 10s each —2s 6d on application and 7s 6d on allotment, which will take place on 1st June. Applications for shares to be made to the Directors up to 1st June.—-The following were appointed provisional directors : Messrs Rendell, Langley, Sewell, Wallis. Somerset, and Wilson. Three to form a quorum.—Instructions were given to the Directors to endeavour in the meantime to charter a small steamer, with a purchasing clause — The meeting then adjourned until such time as tho Directors hear from their agents in Auckland.
