DISTRICT OF WAIKATO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
Tub monthly meeting of tho above Board was hold in tho Hamilton Borough Council Chambers at 11 o'clock yostorday. Present—Messrs Prirnrose (chairman), Seddon, Lang, Anderson, Kallondar, McPherson, Heanejr, Browne, Chepmell, Coates, and McGmrk. Mr T. H. White was also in attendance. Thames Board.—The Thames Board wroto, informing the Board that Toro Moni, a native residing in the Piako district, about 25 miles from tho junction of the Waitoa and the Piako rivers, had been received into the Thames Hospital, suffering from a serious accident to his leg.—The clerk was instructed to apply for further particulars as to tho residence of the native. Raglan Contribution.—The clerk of the Raglan County Council wrote informing tho Board of the payment of £57 5s lOd into the Board's credit, being the amount of contribution due. Oalher.—Mr John Calder asked for a reduction of his hospital fees (£l3), as he had been put to considerable expense for medical treatment, and had not received much relief.—The lotter was received. I'anton.—Mr Clements wrote stating that he had granted a man Robert Panton temporary relief at the rate of us per week, and ho asked that it be confirmed at the next meeting. Panton is the owner of a valuable lot in Cambridge East, the crown grant and deeds of which are now in the Board's hands to have the land vested in tho Board. Mr Clements'action was confirmed and it was docidod to have an assignment of the property made as soon as possible.
Donation. —Mr T. Wells forwarded a donation of £1 to the Board, being a voluntary contribution to the funds. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Casey. Secretary's Report.—The secretary in his monthly report stated that 25 persons wore receiving relief and that tliero were 13 male inmates, two ot whom were contributing towards their maintenance. Credit balance, £556 6d; Subsidy duo by Government, £7 8s lOd, Contributions due, £1305; £ for £ on same, £1305: Hospital fees, £15; Rents of endowments, £30 ; Total :—£3203 9s 4d ; lessaccounts being paid, £209125; leaving an available balance of £2933 17s -11. Dnring the month £100 lis Gd was paid into tho Board. She report was received and adopted. Doctor's Report.—The doctor's monthly report was read and received. Dining-Rooji.—The House Committee reported having received four tenders for thu erection of the dining-room—viz., T. Kvjns, £182 10s ; C. H. Warr, £15 f 15* lid ; C. Ranch, £117; D. Elliot, £14tJ. They recommended the acceptance of Mr D. Elliot's tender. —Mr Anderson moved : "That Mr Elliot's tci:d»r of £11IJ be accepted." Seconded by Mr Seddou and carried.
Instruments.—Acting under instructions from tho Board, Dr. Kenny handed in an inventory of the instruments at tho Hos-pit-il. Nurses. —Mr Coates pointed out that the patients were now reduced to about seven or eight, and lie asked if the number of nurses c-iuld not he reduced.—Captain McPherson stited that the average of nurses in tho Auckland Hospital was aboi't 1 to 4:V, while in the Waikato Hospital the ratio was about 1 to 1L —Mr Chepmell pointed out that this showed nothing, as it must be admitted th.at there was no comparison between a large institution like tho Auckland Hospital and the Waikato Hospital.—After some little discussion, the matter dropped. Relief. —The usual relief for next month, with tho addition of five shillings per week to Robert Panton, was granted. This was all the business.
