RAGLAN.

School Inspection.—During the last week Mr Crowe, Inspector of Schools, has been over inspecting the children in the various schools at Ruapuke, Te Mata, Raglan, and Waitetuna. He left here on Tuesday afternoon for Whatawhata after finishing the examination of the Raglan School. POST OFFICE BUILDINGS. —For many years past the Post Office business at the Raglan office has been carried on in the store occupied by Messrs Rendell and Henry and their predecessors, but since the visit of Mr Biss extensive alterations have been made for the convenience of the public, and the carrying on of the postal department. The delivery of the mails and other postal business now takes place in a room adjoining the store. Mr Cross of Hamilton has been over to see to the telephone arrangements. Sutton's Temperance Hotel,.—Mrs Kenny of Onehunga, is now in charge of the house, which was recently sold by Mr Sutton, and intends to carry on the business as heretofore. Land Court.— The land court which was to have been held here at the end of this month has been again postponed until next month. When a land court is advertised for a certain day, you may be sure it will be postponed. This has been the case here three or four times. BILLIARD-ROOM.—Mr Langley's billiardroom was opened on Saturday last, and was in full swing on the evening of that day. Picnics.—These enjoyable re-unions seem to be the order of the day, several having taken place here of late to the Bridal Falls, Te Mata the Tatooed Rocks. Karioi, whilst others have not been content until they stood high above all on Karioi's top. The glorious weather we have enjoyed during the past week has made every excursion most pleasant. Visitors.—There are still several visitors staying here from Auckland and Waikato. The Rev. Mr Thomas, Congregational minister, Mount Eden, with Mr Hooton, organist of the Beresford-street church, arrived here on Thursday 23rd ult. Mr Thomas preached here on Sunday last, and will be present at the church soiree, to be held on Tuesday next. Church Service. — Service was conducted at Mr Wilson's Waingaro Hot Springs Hotel by the Rev. Mr Williams, of Raglan, on Sunday morning, 19th April. A good number of settlers from the surrounding districts were present at the service.

WRECKAGE.— The hatch of a small vessel has recently been found on the Ruapuke beach.

Karioi.—A meeting of the Karioi Licensing Committee was held in the Court House Raglan, on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 21st. Present : Messrs. A. Gilmour, Henry, Campbell, Charlton, and Pegler. Mr Gilmour was appointed chairman of the committee. No other business was brought forward at this time.

R.M. Court. —On Tuesday, April 21st before Messrs Thos. Mitchell and John N Pegler, J. P.'s, Weteni Rapena and Hami Keropa, were charged with being drunk and disorderly in the Post Office buildings on Saturday afternoon the 18th inst. Both the accused pleady not guilty. Constable Bulford conducted the prosecution. From the evidence of Mr Rendell, Postmaster, and that of the prosecution, it was clearly proved that the accused were guilty of the charge, and they were fined each 10s with 14s costs: or in default 48 hours imprisonment. The fine and costs were paid. —George Moon, of the Harbour View Hotel, who was charged with supplying intoxicating liquor to the above natives, pleaded guilty to the charge, and was fined 10s with 9s costs. Although Mr Moon has held a license for this house for thirty years no previous convictions have been recorded against him. He was strongly advised to procure a copy of the Licensing Acts.
