SHELLY BAY DISASTER.

The evidence at the coroner's inquest on the Shelly Bay accident concluded at four p.m., and the coroncr'a summing up occupied an hour, after which the jury retired to consider their verdict, and at twenty minutes past six returned with tho following " The jury found that tho deceased died from injuries recoived through the accidental explosion of guncotton at Shelly Bay on March 5, but that there was not sufhcionl direct evidcnca for them to say what caused the explosion.' 1 Tho following rider was added:—(l) "We think that the method hitherto practised at Shelly Bay in the manufacture of primers is obsolete, and should be discontinued, the pattern of cannister with a pickle bottle top to be used instead ; we are also of opinion that the officers commanding the torpedo corps in the colony should lie instructed by the proper authorities to strictly adhere, as far as practicable, to the rules issued by the War OfHce for u«e in the Imperial service. The jury are of opinion in this instance that no blame is attachable to Captain Falcmer, as he was not aware of the circular relating to the improved method of loading primers.'' Last Night. Notwithstanding the verdict of the jury, Mrs Heightou the wife of one of the uctnns of the Shelly Bay explosion, has laid an information for manslaughter against Capt. Falconer. The ease is set down for heating on Tuesday. The same witnesses as at the inquest have been subpiwmed.
