SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

CASfimiDCK is not going to manage school affairs iu as amicable a manner as Hamilton hag done, for there will be a contest on each side of the river, the nominations on either side exceeding tho required number of members. Tha individuals nominated are as follows: — CAMBRIDGE EAST. Messrs J. P. Thomson, Jas. Hally, T. Wells, J. Webber, It. \V. Sargent, G. Dickenson, G. J. Xeal, K. Hewitt, and J. S. Bond. CAMBRIDGE WEST. Messrs T. W. Hicks, (!. Bailey, J. A. Hill, tt. Fitzgerald, C. Jarrett, W. Tucker, H. Hicks, J, Chambers, K. Allen, and J. A. Adams. In each case the old members are renominated, and the fight will be a keen one. ALEXANDRA. The following nominations were received by the chairman for members of the new school committee, to be elected on Monday next: —Messrs Jesse Sage, George Sims, Robert McGruther, Daniel Coe, W. J. Smith, George Harper, Phillip Lempriere, James Wills, George Miles, Thomas Finch, James Gifford, W. M. Chappell, and A. Ahier.—Hitherto it h»s been a difficulty to f,et anyone to sacrifice himself for tho benefit of the community and accept the position. So many coming forward on this occasion is somewhat of a surprise. Certainly new blood is badly required, as under the present—or, rather, outgoing— committee things in regard to school matters have remained in statu quo, nothing whatever having besn done by them, and the school is retrograding. A pupil teacher is badly required to assist the master, as with the various classes and subjects required to be taught under the present system, it is almost an impossibility for any one man to succeed in his teaching without such assistance for the junior pupils.
