Munro addressed his constituents last night., and spoke enthusiastically in praise of the Federal Constitution. Ho said that during the sittings of the Federal Convention Sir George Grev was very troublesome, as he would persist in dragging m his pet theory of one man one vote in and out of season. Mr John Handcock, labour candidate, has been returned for Collingwood, the seat rendered vacant bv the death of Mr Laugbridge, Chief Secretary for the colony. April 18. Sir Henrv Parkes will visit Mr J. Munro, Premier of Victoria, during the week to consult with him on federation matters. The Government have communicated with the authorities in India, drawing attention to the increasing immigration of Afghans and Indians into Victoria. Fifty-three have arrived during the past six months, principally hawkers for whom there is no employment. Sydnky, April lf>. In the course of an address to his constituents Sir Henry Purkes said that the Government intended to introduce measures to carry out a free trade policy to its fullest extent, and that they would also bring in a bill to provide for an elective Upper House. Ho remarked that the Federal Constitution would be of a more liberal character than their own. The Greenock Steamship Company has arranged to establish a monthly line of steamers between Glasgow and Austr»lia. Hoiiaut, April 19. It is reported that the amalgamation of the Tasmanian Steam Navigation with the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand will be followed by the union of these two companies with Huddart. Parker, and Company, and Howard, Smith and Sons' lines of steamers. Perth, April 1 /. The steamer Maid of Lincoln has been wrecked in Julien Bay. All on board were saved. She was insured in the New Zealand Company. The first quarter under the administration of the new Government shows .•m extensive increase of all receipts, the surplus being £ 105,(100. Hobaut, April 11. The census shows the population of the colony has only increased by 33,000 in ten years.
