BURGLARY AT HAMILTON.
rio.MKri.ME on Monday night or early on Tuesday morning, a burglary was committed lit Mr K. T. Davoy'a general store, Hamilton. An entrance was effected through n window faciner Mr Qualtrough's ind leading into Mr Davey's ollice. A pane of glass was broken and the latch pushed back, but as the window was further secured by a nail through the two sashes and also two projecting nails in tho bottom part of the upper sash, some considerable force had to be used U open it, and owing to the protecting nails it could not be shut again. Apparently, money was what the thieves were after, for they turned over all the papers in the cash box but without succor, as Mr Davy had lockod up all his cash in a safe in ins office. The only tiling that Mr Davy has missed is a block of about 20lbs. of tobacco, and one stick of this was found lying in the grass outside the window, evidently having dropped off the block. Mrs who lives next door noticed the window open on Tuesday morning and she at once sent a message over to Hamilton East, where Mr Davy's private rosidenco is situated. Mr Davy on coming over and finding that an entry had been effected at onco put (he matter in the hands of tho police, who are doing their utmost, but up to the present have not obtained any clue as to tho culprit.
