(lIV TKI.EGKAI'H.— OWN COUIiESI'ONDKSI'). Auckland, Last Night. At a conference with the officers of the local volunteer corps. Major Goring, the new officer commanding, proposed a sham Sght at; the North Shore oa the (Jueen's Birthday, leaving the details to the officers.

The Police Court was occupied today with the charge of murder preferred against Thomas Floyd, or Fry. The depositions of William Vcitch, the murdered man, shewed that he recognised Floyd as his assailant, and identified the watch worn by Floyd as his property.

The weather to-day has been very itormy, with heavy rain ; but it has cleared up considerably to night. The Law Society to-day applied to have Messrs Keetley and Madden adjudged guilty of contempt of court in failing to pay practising fees. The order was made and the decision reserved for a month to give the lawyers referred to a chance to pay up their arrears. At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice Connolly, in the case of Ferry and Ncwell v. Union Bank of Australia, Mr Tlieo. Cooper, instructed by Mr Outhwaite, moved for the argument of questions of law. Mr E. llesketh appeared for the defendant. Iu a statement of the claim set out by deed dated Ist September, 1890, defeudant demised a certain farm of 000 acres in Wailcato, and became, under an obligation, to enable the plaiutill's' to enter upon the same on the Ist September, lbllO. The occupant of the farm, Daniel Bockett, refused to give up possession, and the questions to be decided were : Did the defendant, by reason of the lease mentioned or otherwise, become bound to plaintiffs to give possession of the farm and to euable plaiutill's to enter upon the. same, and whether the consent was prejudiced by the actiou of Daniel Bockett. The arguments of the law points occupied the Court until a late hour this afternoon. After hearing the argument of counsel, His Honour said lie would not decide the questions of law until the questions of fact had been decided. The argument would, therefore, stand over,
