HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Hamilton Liorough Council was held on Tuesday evening at half-past S3ven. Present: Cr?. ,Tonas, S?ott, Par", Wood, Slade, Held, Tippen and Dey. In the absence of His Worship the Mayor, Cr. Jones was voted to the chair.
Apoi.ooy.—A letter was read from II Worship the Mayor (Mr I. Ooat.es) apoh "ising for his absence from the meeting.Leave of absence was granted.
fjl'lioiws Itor.T..—O.i the application o! Mr (1. 0. Manning it was decided to plact his name on the burgess roll in lieu of M J. (!. I'anncll.
Citossixc.—Mr T. M. 11 ill applied to have a crossing placed opposite his entrance. —It was decided to remove the crossing at present a little lower down Victoria-street to this place. AN'iu.KSEA-SrßiiEi. — S ;veral ratepayers in Anglesaa-street wrote asking that the portion of this street lately fo.-ined be gravelled and tho footpatli to Radnor-street gravelled. —It was decided to accede to the request, Muxioriwr, Coiu>ouation\s Act'. — .V series of proposed amendments to the Municipal Corporations Act to bo considered by a Conference of delegates from all the 1} irough Councils in the colony at Wellington in June, wero forwarded by the Wellington Borough Council, and this Council was invited to appoint a delegate to attend tho Conference and also to make any further proposals that it thought proper for tho amendment of tho Act. — Or. Scott moved tiiat a committee consisting of the Mayor, and Cis. Parr, Tippen, Jones and tho mover, three to form a quorum, bo appointed to consider the matter and report at next meeting of the Council.—Seconded by Cr. Parr and carried. Wouks Rkpout. — The 'foreman of Works' report, dealing with the works requiring to be done and which was deferred from last meeting, was again brought up. The Foreman of Works reported that
daring the month some of these works had been done. He recommended that the Anglesja-street drain and the Cemetery drain be cleaned out, gravel put on several of the streets, and (Galloway-street reformed.—Cr. Dey moved that the works recommended by the Foreman of Works be cirried out in the order of urgeucy, with the exception of tho Cemetery drain.— Seconded by Cr. 801 l and carried. Doc Rkcistiuu.—Tho dog registrar reported that since last meeting 20 dogs had been registered, and £■"*> 10s collected in fees, making a total of 100 dogs registered and £20 5s collected. ACCOUNTS.—Payment of tho following amounts was authorised :—S. Fonlsham, fid ; Maunder, -is 3d ; J. Devitt, jJI 12s lid ; T. King, 12s ;T. Winter, £1; 0. Harwood, £1; K. Waite, lis; T. Slade, -Is; W. Taylor, -Is Gd ; J. Frear, lis; Manktelow, £1 10s; G. Mayes, tt (is. Valuation Roli,. —The Clerk was authorised to strike a number of names oil' the valuation roll.
By-laws.—Cr. Scott said that in drawing up the by-laws, wheeled vehicles, with tho exception of perambulators, were precluded from going the footpath. One man, Or, Wood, had been lined for wheeling his barrow on the footpath, and another had now committed himself, but the police had abstained from taking any action in the matter until they had received an ouinion from the Council. He thought that this portion of tho by-law might well be hung up.—Several councillors expressed themselves of the opinion that it wa.j a hardship to prevent wheelbarrows going on the footpath.—The standing orders being sus pended, Cr. Scott moved that that portion of By-law 8, Sub-suction b, so far as it relates to the wheeling of barrows or trucks on the footpath, be suspended.—• Seconded by Cr. .Tones and carried unanimously. Uninhabitable. —Cr. Parr said that the house near the bridge was not in a tit state for habitation, and moved that the house be sold for removal. —Seconded by Cr. Scott and carried.
Drain.—Mr W. Wood was granted permission to removo the earth thrown out of the drain in Anglesea-street. subject to the approval of the Foreman of Works. This was all tho business.
