WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Thk monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council was'held on Tuesday at 10.30 a.m. There were present : Crs. Lang, chairman, Anderson, Finch, Smith, Kusabs, Farrell, Exolby, Shepherd, and Teasdale. The County Engineer, Mr A. Armstrong, was also in attendance.
Esgiskkii's Rki'OUT.—The engineer in his monthly report stated that the forming and gravelling on the Te Rore-Tuhikaramea road had been completed, that the lonmnf, on the Whatawhata-Tuhikaramea road was advanced, that tho contractor for cleaning tha drains on the Hamilton-Whatawhata swamp road was making [rood progress, and that the bridge on the Frankton road had been replaced with pipes, Owing to the quantity of water the laying of the box culvert near Frankton and the cleaning of the drain near Dinsdale's had to be deferred. Cr. Shepherd being indisposed the engineer inspected the road between St..no s corner and Xgruawahia by himself. The piece of road is about I.', milos in length and has had nothing beyond a few slight repairs done to it for some years, and it has got into a vory bad state, being not quite safe for wheeled traffic at night. The road requires reforming and gravelling. Re the portion of the Hamilton-Ohaupo road from the old mill to Roger's, a distance of about miles, he recommended that some gravelling be done. The remaining portiou of this road also requires reforming and gravelling. He handed in a section of the. work he proposed at the Alekandra end of the approach to the Mangapiko bridge. Owing to the nature of the soil and conformation of the ground considerable cost would have to be incurred in making any great improvement, but tho proposed alteration as shown on the plan would reduce the grade from 1 in 10 to 1 in 1(1. In November last the Engineer reported that some of the piles in the bridge over the Waikat" at Cambridge were decaying and although they were not principal timbers he recommended that they be now repaired and when the work was being carried out he would have a better opportunity of ascertaining the condition of the remaining timbers in the bridge. In connection with tho report of the Engineer as tj the approach to the Mangapiko Bridge, a petition was leceived from 21 residents in and around Alexandra, asking that some attention should be given to this p'.ace, as in winter it would be impassable. Cr. Finch thought the amount required a largo one, and asked if part of tho work could not be done in a permanent way. so as to bo added to it some future time, —Cr. Smith smd ha
