Tiie work will be pointed out by Mr Fisher at 1 p.m., on Saturday, the 14th inst, it will be let. by tender and will have to lie completed within four weeks. TIIOHNTOX KOAI) AN'P TMK L.VKK hit' rtHHVK.—A letter was received from the Borough Council re the proposed altera-tion-J on the above mentioned road and reserve, which led to a very lengthy and animated discussion which resulted in the chairman being authorised to reply to the Council as follows:-" The Domain Loan! desire to acknowledge the attention given to the matter by the Council, but regret that it did not see its way to accept the propositions (submitted by the Board to the Council) without reserve. Tho Board will ngree to the exchange of the laud as set out in vaur various resolutions of the 13th February, but demur to two conditions imposed tiv the resolution of the2olh., viz: 1. That the Council indetiniiely retain possession of the gravel juts •' The repudiation uy tho Council of all liability to level, even when they do hand it „voi\ — Doaling with the first, if the exchange >l the land is to be now affected, it is only common business prudence that some set tune or cotidi'ioii of things should he arranged to determine the Council's occupation, otherwise the whole matter may well stand over until the Council can fix this point. With reference to the second, the Hoard submit that the Council, having broken into and made a large and dangerous excavation in the public street, a moral and a legal obligation rests upon them to remove the dangerous hole, and to leave the place at the least, as accessible as it was before the Council broke into it.—The Board cannot see its way to relieve the Council of this liability, neither had the Board the necessary funds to discharge such a liability.— The Board is most desirous to do all pes sible consistent with its duty, to work with the Council in the public interest, and is willing (if the Council so wish) for matters to continue as at present until those points can be settled. Requesting a consideration bv the Council,—l am, etc., T. Wells, Chairman. This being all the business, tho meeting closed.
