Mr rarnell is in favour of shortening the hours of labour by the establishment of Boards of Conciliation. Lord Salisbury favours the appointment of Messrs Maim and Hums to seits on the Labour Commission, but his colleagues differ with him. The stevedores and coalheavers at, London have again refused to work with non-iinioni«t.». The various unions at, Cardiil' arc erently divided in opinion on the question of the strike. The railway men refuse to support the seamen and iiremen ill a general strike. It is reported that Mr Goschen, Chancellor of the. Exchequer, will be the chairman of the Labour Commission. A deputat ion waited on Mr W. 11. Smith, urging that one-halt of the number of members on the Labour Commission should be recognised leaders of the labour party. The Shipping Federation have refused to withdraw their ticket. March 7. Four thousand of the Marquis of Londonderry's colliers have again struck, out of sympathy with the families evicted at Liksworth.
Free seamen and iiremen are available beyond the requirements of owners. Dockers arc ottering their services owing to their places being tilled up. The undecided attitude of the P. and 0. Company towards the Shipping Federation programme is the cause of some remark. The dockers, stevedores and coalheavers, desire to buy up the free labourers. Berlin, March It is feared that a general strike of the miners in Germany will shortly take place.
