SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
An explosion of guncotton occurred on Thursday morning at the torpedo depot, Shelly Bay, Wellington, by which three men, Jensen, Carswell and Ross were seriously injured. Ross was very severely injured." the skin being burnt off his face, arms and legs, and he further received a terrible wound in the abdomen. The shock to his system was very severe and his dispositions have been taken. The other men, though badly hurt by being thrown against the machinery ill the building, are not nearly in such a bad way as tho unfortunate man Ross. Captain Falconer, the torpedo instructor, had only left the shed a minute or so before the ex plosion took place. Later. An abdominal operation was performed on Ross this morning. The others are progressing favourably. It is now believed the accident is due to tha men smoking. Ross began to sink rapidly this afternoon and died at 5.40 this evening. Deceased was aged 35 and was married. He has beeu a member of the Torpedo Corps for about five yoars and had charge of the smithy connected with the station.
