UNION COMPANY'S ULTIMATUM.
Thk Union Company have issued nn ultiuiiitum that they luivo been reluctantly ciniipcllc.il to come to the decision to decline in the future to engage any man belonging to tlui Seunens' and Km.Miinns. , ITnion. lna long letter from the Managing Director, Mr James Mills to Mr l>. P. Kisher, tlio following is tho main reason given for this determination: —"That tho Union men, m> employed, have been creating mischief and by various moans compelling free men, unwilling in many cases, to join the union; directing their efforts towards reviving the union, with the avowed object of taking retaliatory measures when the time is ripe. The company had hoped by the conciliatory ciiin.se they had adopted that it would have found recognition in the shape of loyalty to the service. In this thev have been bittnrly disappointed. They feel, therefore, that it has been forced upon them to decide that future vacancies shall be lilled up from those outside the union, and this they hope to accomplish from the ranks of the young men growing up in their midst, many of whom are only too anxious to get into their employ.
