(lIV TELKUKAPII.—PKESS ASSOCIATION). Chkistchdhch, Tuesday. To-day a petition was lodged against the return of Mr Joyce for Akaroa on the grounds that all tho polling-places in tha district were not closed at the same hour, Lyttelton closing at toven and the others at Rkefton, Tueeday. A petition was lodged this afternoon by .John Drake, against the return of K. Reeves for Inangahua. Sir Robert Stout and Mr Free of Reefton have been retained for the petitioner. It is understood that the petition has been brought under the2llth clause of the Election Petitions Act, 18S0. thus making the Returning Officer respondent. So far as can be ascertained the grounds are that votes were disallowed that should uavo been allowed, also other irregularities on the part of the Returning Otticor. Tho petition will probably be heard hi Nelson. UItKYMOUTH, Tuesday. Subscriptions to tho fund to defray Mr Drake's petition against Mr Reeves election for Inangahua are coming in freely. The petition of Mr \V. Fraser against Mr \V. S. Alloiva election as M H R. for Te Aroha has bean lodged with the Returning Officer, Mr T. M. La-vlor. Tho grounds of his petition are omissions to comply with the term, of the " Elector*, Acts, Amendment Act, 1880," and "The Regulation of Elections Act.
