CAMBRIDGE DOMAIN BOARD.

Tub first Monday in the year being the day appointed by statute for holding annual mretiti'M of Domain Boards, the Oambridga Domain Board met at:! p.m when there were present: Messrs I. Wells (chairman), R. Kirkwood and K. Hewitt. The minutes of the previous meeting were rend and continued. Accounts.—The Chairman had authorised the payment of the following amounts, which were the whole of the accounts • ■wed by the Board v\> to December olst :— T. Brown, £15 ; J. McCormish, t'2 as; J. t>. TinJinsmi, f-t -'s 5d ; \V. Houter aud Oα, IDs Id: W. Spontc. 7s;Jas. Hicks, os. Total, £22 lit (id.—The action of thu chairnun was approved o£ and endorsed. The ]Jyi.anx'K-shebt. — The balancc■<hert tor the past year, which was laid upon the table, showed the b ink overdraft to be VIS V.)i Bd.—The Chairman said it would be seen that they started the year with an overdraft «f £•">!) $*, and althoilgh it now stood at £13 19-s 3d, they were virtually in credit to the extent of £43 I«s3d, as on November 11th rents Jinniinting to L->t us lid were due. He thought they could con cratulata themselves upon the state nf their finances, for in addition to having reduced the overdraft (£45 IS* 4d), thoy had expended a large amount, £55 having been devoted to improving the Domain lands at Cambridge West. It had been a long and heavy pull, but the struggle had terminated satisfactorily, and their finances were now on an healthy footing. He wished all the local bodies of Waikato were in as happy a position. — The statement of receipts and expenditure was passed, and the chairman was ordered to sifjn it as correct, ~ ItKNTS,— It was decidod to at once sue all tenants who are two quarters and over in arrears with their rents. Election oi , Chaihman.—Mr Wolls said his term of office had now expired, and he must ask them to appoint his successor.— Mr Kirkwood said it was again Ins pleasing duty to propose that Mr Thos. Wells be re-elected chairman. He was sure he need make no remarks as to Mr Well's fitness for the position, for the whole of tho inhabitants of the township were cognizant of the ability he (Mr Well*) had displayed in laying out the Domain grounds.and of tho great amount of time he had devoted to them : and now the lake reserve wasacreditto the place and a pattern to visitors. A few years ago there was a talk of another body endeavouring to take over the control of Domain lands, etc., but he was glad it had not been pursued, as he felt convinced that no other

man in the town would have taken eo much trouble with it, e»en if they had the ability. He was pleased the time had arrived Co pay attention to the other side of the river; they had spent a fair amount of money there during the year, which, in the course of time, would add to the beauty of the place. The motion was seconded by Mr HewiSt, and arried.—Mr Wells said he was obliged to Mr Kirkwood for his kind remarks, and to the Board for re-electing him. Ue was sorry he had not moro time to devote to the work, and alao sorry that the Board had not more money to expend upon it. During the present year they would require more than one man during the month in which thetreee should be pruned, for his business engagements would not allow of his giving the time, or tie uhould be happy to do it. He trusted matters would continue to prosper with them, and that next year they would be in an even better position than at present. Cabctakek.—Mr Thos. Brown was reappointed caretaker of the Domain, at the same salary as last year, viz., £SO. Kon/.E.—Tt was resolved to employ a man to eradic:»to sovoral patches of furzo ou the Eastern boundary of the lake reserve. fJonvKY.— The Chairman aaid the Borough Council were endeavouring to get a portion of Thornton road put into the Domain, and he thought that if that was done that a complete survey of the Lake Reserve should be made, as there were several places where

the Board and the Council, or perhaps he iioulcl Ilia Town Board, had exchanged Und of which uo survey had been made. H the Thornwn road deviation wore made thu other matter* -ould bo rectified at the naiiin time without, extra expense.—Air Well.-! was authorised to confer with the ('iinncil 10 tlm matter, and was empowered to act on behalf of tho Board. Leasks.--Isaac Loolcrr applied to have b's of sections 70 and 71, at Cambridge \Vest, transferred to T. Vickors; and T. Hall to Jsayo section Tfi transferred to C. XurgrovG,—lJesqlyed that the Hoard offer no objection. Stii.b.— The Chairman repot ltd tnat l)e and Mr Kirk wood hid inspected the plaoa at the lower end of the lake (where it had been proposed to erect a kisaine gate) and tid denirled that a stile would meet all rerjuirenienis.—The stile has biwn nrnntod.
