ENTERTAINMENT AT HUNTLY.
An entertainment was given on the 19th inst., in the Huntly Hall, in aid of the. District School, which prowd an unqualified success. The stage was prettily and artistically decorated with ferns, flowers and evergreens. Colonel .Smith made a very efficient chairman. The concert opened with an instrumental duet on the pianofoite (Fairy Queen) by Mrs Hard'vick-Simth and Mr K. Ralph. This piece was exquisitely rendered and was loudly applauded. " Star of Peace " was sang by the school children, and was deservedly applauded, the children taking different parts and blending their voices melodiously. Mr 11. Skellern sang in excellent voice and with good intonation, and an encore. Mrs Brownell sang the " Fairies " with good taste and feeling. The "Seo-saw Waltz" by the school children then followed. This was a very good item, and reflected great credit on Mesdames Smith and Mayhew, and Misses Alexander and Smith (2). The see-saw was prettily decorated with flowers and the children sang and danced beautifully. It was rapturiously applauded and an encore demanded, Mrs Hardwick-Smith sang the "Golden Shore" with great feeling and expression, and was encored. The first part of the programme closed with the tableau of " Maggie's Secret," Miss Alexander singing the words and the actors peforming their parts in a manner which left nothing to be desired. An encore was demanded. The second part of the concert was opened by a pianoforte solo by Mr K Ralph, " Fandango," by Sydney Smith. This gentleman plays with great skill, being a thorough musician. He was deservedly applauded. The tableaux of Auld Robin" was admirably staged, and reflected great credit on the performer*. Miss A. Orowder sang the song very sweetly. The school children sang, " Oh ! Alpine Land," in a manner which reflected great credit on Mrs Slavhew (the assistant, teacher). Mrs HardwickSmith then sang " Remember Mo no More." Tills lady is a traiued musician, and sang the song in a charming manner. Wo must not forget t» praise the way in which Mr Soppett sang "Killaloe," which was encored. Mrones also recited a very amusing piece of poetry. Tlie|laso item presented was the tableaux of " Beauty and the Beast,'' the performers giving due credit to the various parts, in a manner which was simply perfect. Mr Ralph played the accompaniments to the various songs, tableaux, etc., in his usual artistic manner. The whole concluded with the National Anthem, after which dancing was engaged with gieat spirit, and lasted till morning.
