HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held m the Cuiinuil Chambers on Tuosday at 8 o'clock p.m. Thoro were present : Crs. Dey, Tippen, Bell, Iloid, Slade, Wood, Parr and Scott. The Mayor wrote apologising for his absence, and on the motion of Cr. 801 l Or. l)oy was voted to the chair.

The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. Band Isstiiuhents.—Mr H. E. Tristram wrote asking that the band instrument:! in possession of the Volunteers be handed over to the Hamilton Brass Bund as the Volunteer Band had ceased to exist.—Cr. Heid stated that the A'olunteers had no intention of being without a band, and that they were in treaty for a bandmaster now and aUo that if the instruments were handed to the town baud the Volunteeis would have to get another lot.—Cr. Parr moved that the letter lie upon tho table. — This motion lapsed for want of a seconder. —Cr. Bell then moved that the matter be deferred till next mooting; in order to afford timo to the Volunteers to make arrangements to keep their band together.— Seconded by Cr. Slade.—Cr. Wood moved as an amendment that the instruments belong to the Volunteers as long as they have a band. —Seconded by Cr. Tippen.—The amendment was lost, only Crs. Wood and Tippen voting for it, and against it the rest of the Council. The voting for the motion was vice versa and it was declared carried.

Hawkers' License.—Mr R. T. Gilinour wrote in reply to a demand for hawker's license, saying that lie. did not see how he could be classed as a hawker for ho had a fixed place of business, and also that he did not hawk goods about in tho Borough. Considerable discussion ensued, and it vine icsolved unless the fee is paid proceedings be taken for its recovery. It was also resolved to prosecute all hawking without a license.

Baths.—Tho caretaker of tho baths wrote asking that as thu soason had been so bud and that he had only talcon £2 nt the baths, that he bo allowed to do certain work there in return for the £2.— Crs. Parr and Reid were appointed a committee to .see that the necessary repairs to the baths were carried out.

Accousis.—The following accounts wore passed for payment':—Kins, 12s ; Insurance on library books. 7s Gd ; Knox and Ridler, £1 os od ; Wilson, Us ; Munro, 5s ; Mayes, £1 10s lid ; Waite, £5 18s Od; Lo Quesne, £117s Hd ; Peacock, £1 fis. Tkndek*. —The following tenders were received:—Carting gravel, IJ-. Waite, Hamilton Kast, Is 3d, Hamilton West, Is 3d per cubic yard ; T. Jones, Hamilton East, Is 3d, Hamilton West, Is l>Ad (accepted). Carting :—U. Wuito's tender (or carting was accepted it Iwing tho only one. The price was for one borne- and dray one day, 8s; half-day, Is (i J; quarter day, 2s 6d; load, Is Od : Livo h'>rao.-i and dray, one day, lis; hall-day, lis; quarter-day, 3s; load 2s. (.!. Mayes was tho only tenderer for laiupllghling at rid per lamp, and his tender was accepted. Messrs Kaiox and liidler were Mm only tundi-reri tor dog collars, and their tender was accepted at 7s (id per dozen.

Doc, KecisTitAii.—Mr \V. Maoktelow was appointed dog registrar at Is per collar for tho year ending December 31st 1891.

Salkyauus.—Or, Tippeu moved that tenders be called for the supply of a well, pump and trough complete, to be erected in the saleyards, and that the Mayor and Crs Scott, Parr and Tippen bo a committee to see the works carried out. Carried unanimously.

Fencing.—Cr. Ball moved that lots 48, 4"), and 4li he fenced in, and that the last Committee bo appointed to see it curried out.

Repairs. —R. Waite wrote, asking that the Council pay for the repairs Deeded by his scoop, which was damaged when reforming the roads, lately. Mr R. Hines, Borough foreman, explained that the scoop was hired for 12s per day, the owner to talis all risks, he recommended that a small amount be allowed him.—Cr. Parr moved that Waite bo allowed ten shillings, for repairs. Seconded by Cr. Rod. Cr. Tippen moved that the letter be received, seconded by Cr. Bell. The amendment was put, and (jrs. Wood, Slade, Bell, Tippsn, and Dey voted for it, and Crs. Scott, Parr, and Reid voted against it. The amendment was declared carried.

Audit Fees. —An account was received frumthj Audit offico for £3 13a 4,1, for auditing the, B uough accounts. Tlie account was passed. '

Balance-Sheet.—Tho balance-sheet was allowed to lay on the tabic.

IiBPOHTS.— The Foreman of Works reported ';hat two crossings; iu thu Clyde-street Gully were in a dangerous condition, and also lhatths Hamilton F'ist pound, was in a bad condition. The poundkuopof'o repott was adopted.

Nixox-sTKBBr. —Mr ft. S. Pearson wroto complaining that the drain iu Nixou-street was in a bad slate.—Tho matter was roferrod to the foreman of works, with power to act.

Howell's Allotment,—Cr. Tippen reported that the furze were growing at such a rate on Howell's property, Hamilton East, that no Insurance Company would insure Mr McKnnzie's house, which is adjacent.—The Clerk was instructed to givo Mr Gordon, the representative, notice that the furze must be cleared off. Bathing. —It was resolved that the attention of the polisa be drawn to tho fact that persons were bathing in ilia Laito outside the hours fixed hy the Council. Anglksea-stkekt DiuiN.— The foreman of works was instructed to report on the Anglesea-stroet drain at the next meeting of tho Council.
