Tub Band Instruments. —The captain of tho Salvation Army wrote as follows :— Cambridge December 9th, 1SD0: To J. H. Priestly, Esq., Mayor of Cambridge.— Dear Sir, —When I. on behalf of the Cambridge Salvation Army, applied to your Council for tho use of the Borough band instruments, I had not the least idea that they wero wanted by other parties, or that my application would be the cause of illfeeling being shown ; but unfortunately the latter appears to he the ease, and as I do not wish tho Army to make enemies, but rather to conciliate all such, I beg respectfully to withdraw my application. I am deeply grateful to your councillors for the manner in which they responded to iny request, rind humbly apologise, for the trouble I unwittingly put them to. I may state the Army were fully prepared to carry out all the regulations stipulated by the Council, and the sole cause of the project being abandoned is that it may rouse the emnity of some few of the inhabitants of the Borough. Thanking the Council for its favourable consideration of the scheme, and again apologising for having given so much trouble, —I am, Sir, yours faithfully, H. i)B Blois, Captain Cambridge Salvation Army.—The Mayor said the letter put a new phase on the matter, and was doubtless caused by the following letter received from Mr Lamb :—Cambridge, November 11th, 18!)0.—To the Mayor and Council.— Gentlemen,—lt having been my intention for somo time past, to form a permanent band tor the town, from the boys belonging to the Juvenile Templars, under my charge, as they become qualified to take the instruments, that time lias now arrived. As some of the members of the upper lodge " being old band members'' have agroed to join, until " they are able to do the wholeof the work'' themselves, I therefoie apply for the use of the old band property, held by tho Council, in trust for the town, hoping therefore that you will favour us with the instruments as early as possible, as we wish to practico for the coming sports. I therefore remain, yours truly, Joseph R. Lamb.—A lengthy discussion ensued (which we refrain from publishing, as wo do not wish to di«turb Mr Lamb's equanimity) and a resolution was then passed to the elfect that the Council could not recognise such a band as Mr Limb alluded to as a. "town band," but that the instruments would be granted them upon similar terms to those quoted to the Salvation Army. If these terms are not accepted, tho offer will s'.ill be open to the Army.

A Pump.—The Council decided to sink » well, and erect a pump at some convenient part of the Borough, to be decided by the Works Committee, to provide water for drinking purposes, and also for cattle and horses.

Accounts, —The following accounts were passed for payment :--H. Preece, £3 7s Od ; W. J. Young, £2 4s ; W. S. Evans, 10s Orl; J. Fergusson, lis 7d; F. W. Buckland, £1 17s Gd.

Somo action ro defaulters who had not cleared their streets of furze, etc., was taken, and tho Council then rose.
