ISLAND NEWS.
(by telegraph—own correspondent.) Auckland, Laet Night. The steamer Richmond from her usual six weeks South Sea trip brings little news of importance. At Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, and Rarotonga, affairs are quiet. At Tonga things seemed to be somewhat improving, copra coming in in large quantities. H.M.S. Acorn arrived at Papeete (Tahiti), from Honolulu, on a cruise a few days before the Eichmond left for Auckland. The natives in the Islands of Huakeine, Raiatea, and Rarotonga, in the Society Group, against whom the French authorities at Tahiti lately took active hostile proceedings, were reported to be in a quiescent state, for the present at any rate.
