WAIKATO HUNT CLUB KACES. The Maiden Race, run at the late race meeting of the above club having been declared nul' and void, it was docided that the race should be run over again in order to dispose of the stakes, and this camo off on Saturday last. There was a large crowd present, and considerable interest was taken in tho event. Previous to the race two proteats were lodged, one by Mr>l. McGlaehan, nnd the uther by Mr John Brown, against Lonely being allowed to compete, on the grounds that the race was the same ono, and for which Lonely had been disqualified. A meeting of tho stewards was held, and the protests dismissed, as they ruled that the race was a fresh one, but the money was refunded on the grounds that all the horses were to compete. J''ive horses started. Lonely, lima, Helen MacGreeor.Contempt, and Lupin. On the full of the Hag Lupin jumped to the front, and led for the first quarter of a mile, when Contempt tojk charge of affairs, and as he appeared to be milking every post a winning one, his victory was loudly proclaimed, as he Jeft his Hold down the back of the course, and rounded the Hautiipu Station bend with a good lead. On entering the straight, however, it was seen thai the whips were out on nil but liOnely, who had been biding his timo, and coining with a well-timed run, he collared Contempt half way up the straight, and after a good race passed the judge's box a neck to tho good, Helen MacGregor coming fast under the whip third.

Immediately aftor the race another protest was lodged by Mr John Brown, the owner of Contempt, against the stakes being paid over to Lonely, on the grounds that Mr Searancke, the owner, Mr Dixou the trainar, and Mr H. Weal, the jockey, had respectively owned, trained, nud ridden horses running at unregistered meetings.

Aftor this a Hurry Scurry was got up, aud for which soven horses entered. After a good race Mr H. Bullock Webster's 'Freshfield, ridden by Mr Scarborough, scored » win, with Mr Scarborough's Robin second.
