WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the above Council was held in tho Council Chambers, Ohaupo, yesterday at 11 o'clock. There were present: Crs. Laing (chairman), Kusabs, Shepherd, Teasdale, Smith, Finch and Exelby.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence adopted. Kki'Out.—The engineer reported that the contractors were netting on with tho work let at the last meeting, and that the sanding of the Ohaupo-Paterangi road was proceeding satisfactorily. He had ma le two appointments with ' Mr McNicol re his culvert but neither had been kept, and lie had made another for Saturday. He had not yet visited Ngavuawahia. Ho also reported that he had g >ne over the bad portion of the Whatawh ita-Tuhikaramea road, in company with Mr Shopherd, and they found that the road now being used was only a bridle track and vehicles could not pass on it, part of it was through dense litres The surveyed road was formed but it had a quantity of ti-tree upon it and would need clearing. Cr. E. C. Shopherd moved and Cr. Kusabs seconded that tho work be cairrod out.
Subsidy.—Mr J. 15. Whyte wrote enclosing checque for £10, teing the subsidy on drainage near his property. He said he had heard that the drain was not workins satisfactorily. The Clerk was iu structed to reply saying that the work was giving every satisfaction. Princk's Approach.—lt was found that the cutting had been made in 18S3, which was after the house had been built, and Mr Prince had never made any complaint till the present year. It was proposed by Cr. Teasdale that the Council put in a box culvert, Mr Prince to do the rest of the work. Seconded by Cr. Kusabs. Cr. Smith moved, as an amendment, that the Council have nothing to do with the job. Seconded by Cr. Finch. The amendment beine put, there voted for it the mover and seconder, and tho rest of the Council against it, and tliti voting uf the motion bein;j vicu versa, the motion was therefore declarod carried.
Audit Account.—An account was received from the Audit Department for JL'l (Is Sd, being audit foes. The account was allowed to stand over till next meeting.
Balance-Sheet.—The balance-sheet was roceived from the inspector duly certified. FltANicros.—Cr. Lixolby reported that some holes needed filling in on the Franktun road. It was resolved that the work be done.
Ngakuawahia Road.—Cr. Exelby said he had heard that tho Ngarnawahia road was in a very bad state of repair. The Engineer said that the road had never been properly made. The road wanted forming, us it was at present iu a state of nature. Petition. —With regard to the petition re the merging of the Hamilton Road Board, it was resolved to reply that the petition bo referred back till all the requirements of the act had been complied with.
Allocations.—The allocations made for tho ensuing year are the same as last, Llisultory discusssion ensued on this question, the councillors being of opinion that it was the best way of keeping down expenditure, each district being given so much to spend. They had now reduced the overdraft from £1700 down to £112.
Ahkeahs.—lt was resolved that notices bo seat out re arrears of rates, that they must be paid at once,
