At an extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders of the Colonial Insurance Company, this afternoon, resolutions of tho directors, recommending the sale of the Company's business to the Commercial Union Insurance Company, of London, were adopted, with one dissentient. The chairman of tho company made .1 long statement, showing that the compauy had had a chequered career, and for four ynara previous lo 18SD had not paid <i dividend. DUNHDIN, Last Kighl. Bishop Mo ran made a strong address last night in reply to the resolution of the Schools' Conference, and denying thH denominational schools had proved a failure. Owing to the fact of no prize money offering, the Otago Agricultural Association entries this year wore only 811 against 1000 last year, The falling off is maiuly in Shorthorns. Tho entries of draught horses and Ayrshire cattle arc good, whilst there is a better display of agricultural implements thau usual. At the Supremo Court to-day the Grand Jury returned true bills in all the cases except, Lily 1011 a Patten for concealment of birth ; and Alex. Cowan for manslaughter. John Williams and Albert Payne charged with robbing drunken men were acquitted. William Manders Hyemest Perry was convicted of breaking into and stealing from Mrs Lake's boot factory but sentence was deterred. Timothy Kellicr was found guilty of indecent assault and sentence was deferred. William Denniaou was found guilty of common assault and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour. There arc two more cases to be disposed Of.
GLSBORNE, Last Night. The Oiaborne Ga3works had a narrow escape from destruction by fire last evening. A quantity of coal burst through the partition against the walls of the retorts and becoming heated set lire to the woodwork. The lire was extinguished without much damage.
