RETIREMENT OF SIR GEORGE GREY.
We are ablo to announce toiday, on atthority, that Sir George Grey will not be a candidate for the representation of the City at the forthcoming general election. Yielding to the advice of Dr. Haines, hie medical adviser, ho has decided not to reenter Parliament, and Messrs Gee aiid Koesiiiß, whj were to have nominated.him for the City, have been informed U that oflfect. iVlthoußl) Sir Geni-Ro was a- little better on Sunday his condition continues to cause his friends considerable anxiety, and in the opinion of his medical attendant hie retirement from public life, and complete eoveranco from the worry and cares of political affairs, is essential to his restoration to health.
A meeting of the Central Liberal Committee will probably be at once convened to take into consideration the change which Sir George's decision makes in tho contest for the city, whilst it is not improbable that other candidates than those selected by that body will now be forthcoming, their selection being tho reverse of popular among a not inconsiderable section of tho electors. —Herald.
