The following motion will be considered at its next meeting, "That this Council is of opiniou that a joint committee should be appointed in each city of the colony annually by the Employers' Association, on the one part, and the Trades and Libour Council on the other, for the purpose of arbitrating on all differences which may occur and affect the trados connected with either body, and by conciliatory methods prevent strikes. A peculiar assault case is reported from Featherston. On Tuesday night an indignation meeting of those who had given orders for the " Picturesque Atlas of Australasia was held, and the delivery agent was invited to attend. As there was some challenges as to the genuineness of the signatures, the agent went to the ordor book, and on returning he asserts that he was suddenly seized, and a sick thrown over his head, and he was securely roped. His book wns taken from him along with various documents including cheques, etc., the latter being found near the scene of the outrage next morning. He also says that he had £!) stolen from him and a seven chamber revolver (loaded). Detective Herbert has gone up to investigate the matter.
