About a quarter to tlireo o'clock this afteriiooii a middle-aged man named Jolm My lies, staying at the Britomart Mote 1, Customs-street, attempted suicide by snooting himself with a revolver but the wound did not prove fatal. Th-? circumstances attending the. affair arc r.ither peculiar. Just after she time named the man first atkactdJ attention by rushing down tho liotel stairs in a state of excitement exclaiming th'\t hu had shot himself and he was dripping 'jlwkl. -t'lie policu were quickly snuimotied and Dr. McKellar was soon in attendance. The man had a smoking revolver in Ins hand. He was found to have shot himself in the left side close to his heart. Dr. AlcKellar found that the bullet had penetrated the body near the gftb rib, but he did not thinl: on examination that any vital Jordan was touched. The shot had evidently been aimed for tho heart. Hynos is suffering from chronic rheumatism and has bcnii in the hospital and also at Hotorua. lie savs he did the deed becauso he was tired of life.
