Wellington, List Night. The Appeal Court, opened this morning. Mr Justice Connolly was absent having been called to Blenheim through family bereavement. The Wanganui case of Watt v. Attorney-General was argued. This was an appeal from the decision of the Chief Justice. The appeal was dismissed. A number of the labour party on strike have applied to the Government to be allowed to take Mp land <m special settlement conditions. The (Internment havo a number of special reports and pamphlets, dealing with phylloxera, which they are having abridged for distribution throughout tho colony. A five labourer named Wynn Williams broke both ankles while working cargo at tho Queen-street wharf on Saturday. The Appeal Court decided to sit to-moi-row. The Shaw Savillo and Albion Company * lonic left Capetown for Wellington via Hobart on Saturday. Mr F. Allan, General manager of the Colonial Insurance Company, states that if the sale of tho business is agreed to, tho shareholders will be paid ten shillings per sh»re net.
Yesterday while conducting confirmation at l'alnierstou North, Bishop Hadlield, Primate of Now Zealand, was suddenly attacked with partial failure of the heart s action, and had to be removed to his hotel where he lies still very weak though progressing favourably. The Premier expects to issue Ins manifesto at the end of the present week or early next. Tho Government have not yet heard anything definite from the shipping companies in respect to the carriage of mails by direct steamer.
