FLOODS IN THE WAIKATO.
(BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORKKSPONIIKNT.) Cambridge. Last Night. Tan Waikato was higher to-day than it has been for years. Mr Souter's wharf here was completely submerged.
Two of the culverts on the Raglan Road have we understand collapsed owing to the extra pressure on them during the late heavy rains. The one at Waitetuua put iu by Loane and Co., has gone completely, and at the place there is a chasm lift wide and Sft deep. The arch culvert at the bottom of the mountain has fallen in half way across the road.
The Mannekowhni a stream about two miles past Whatawhata is iu high Hood the water yes'.erday afternoon being up to the handrail.
A portion of tho permanent way between It-.k'llii.i and Ohanpo was washed away on Saturday. A gang of railway men wore at work all day Sunday putting the line iu order. Mr Cross, telegraph line repairer, rode into Hamilton from Te Mata and Raglan, yesterday, and reports many portions of tho Ivaglan road blocked by land slips, and two culverts washed away. The Maungaltowhai creek has been backed up by tho Waipa river, thy water being almost up to the hand rail when he pas-ed, the road is under water for fully seven chains, and he had to get the Maoris with their canou to put him across. ..... , ,i The Waipa is in high Hood, and all the lower Hat is under water. The factory is stopped until coiniininication with Ngaruawahia is restored. A heavy landslip is reported on the Raglan road which will prevent wheel traffic for some time. Messrs Langley and Ci.dvan experienced great difficulties in coming over with cattle.
