IMPERIAL DEFENCE.

London, October 8. Mr E. Parkin delivered a lecture at ALdersliot. last nis;ht, on Imperial defence. Baron De Worms, who presided, stated that the Admirality are selecting a thoroughly competent officer who ■will start at once to take part in the conference of military commandants of Australia. He expressed a hope that Imperial federa» tion would shortly be established, England being the pioneer. In response te> the request of the Victorian Government, Captain A. D. Moore, of the navy, will leave for Australia on the 2(>th instant, to advise the intercolonial conference which meets at Melbourne next month, to discuss the question of the defence of King George's Sound and Thursday Island.
