At about 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon an eloven-roomed house, belonging to Mr John Kilgour, Papunga, near Hum, Manakau Haibour, was burned to the ground. Mr Kilgour himself is in tho Auckland Hospital, and his wife was in the bush at the time, assisting one of her sons at work. The cause is believed to be a defective chimney. The house was insured in the South British for £1~)0. At the Supreme Court in Banco, this morning, before Mr Justice Connolly, Thos. Mace Humphreys appeared in person to show cause why a writ of attachment should not issue against him in the case of Meyer versus Humphrey. After hearing argument His Honor refused the application. In the case of the National Bank v. Grace, His Honor gave judgment for the Bank.
