The Education Department will shortly issue a circular to the Boards of Education in the colony suggesting the desirableness of adopting a uniform set of class books in. all schools in New Zealand. ; ' Dr. Ginders, who has been instructed to enquire into and report on the!existence of leprosy at Tokaano Hot Lake' district has not yet forwarded his report to the Government, but the authorities in Wellington are convinced that no foundation exists for the scare among Europeans. The disease is known to have existed among the natives for many years and it is said to be no worse now than it was years ago. The Evening Press states.—" We are informed on good authority that His Excellency the Governor has intimated to the authorities of St. Paul's Cathedral Church that the Government House sittings will not be required after the end of the present year. A man namad Henry Burrett has been | arrested here and remanded to Auckland i on a charge of deserting bis wife and children. Thirty-eight sovereigns were found in his possession.
