NGARUA WAHIA.

On Thursday evening lust the first mooting this year of the Band of Hope was held in the Presbyterian Church, Ngaruawahia. The reason that the meetings had net started so early this year as thoy did before is because no performers could be procured owing to the elfects of " La Grippe," which has been very prevalent at Ngaruawahia. The church was crowded there boing scarcely sitting room for all who attended, a proof of how these meetinus are appreciated here. Mr Clark as usual took the chair, and after delivering an address, the programme began and ran as follows :—Anthem, cheir ; recitation, Stanley Mcßurnev; duet, Misses M. Paterson and N. Lockie ; recitation, Lena Mcßurney; solo, Miss Clayton ; recitation, Tom Nicol; solo, Miss James; recitation, Miss Vant; duet, Misses B. Nicol and M. l'aterson ; recitation, Miss Mcßurney; duet, Mrs Lamb and Miss James; recitation, Madeline Clayton ; recitation, Mr J. Nicol. The meeting was closed by singing the doxology ; then, all perfectly satisfied, dispersed _to their different homes. The next meeting will bo held on the first Thursday in July, when it is hoped as many will attend as 011 Thuisday night.
