At the opening of Parliament in the speech from the Throne it was stated that the year's estimates had been fully realised, and there was a- satisfactory surplus. The Government intend to introduce Bills providing for a progressive tax on unimproved value of land, fov remission of duties on tea, coffee, cocoa 'and kerosene, and a reduction of the sugar duty. A measure dealing with local option is promised.
