WHANGAREI, Last Night. A large representative meeting to urge the constitution of the Puhipuhi Railway was held last night. Speeches of a decided character were delivered _by leading men, showing the immediate necessity of the construct ion of the line, which would opan a vast wealth of minerals, timber, etc., known to exist in the district. The line was also stated to be of vital importance to the colony. An influential committee was appointed to memoralise the Government.
INVERCARGILL, Last Night,
The fact has just come out that two sailors who took part in the alleged improper stowing of thcEtnilie, deserted, and it is stated they are still in the district. It is quite possible that further enquiry will be made. NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday.
The inquest on the body of Maloney, found murdered ou the Recreation Ground has been adjourned till 10 a.m. to-morrow.
