DRAUGHT STALLIONS.

TO THE EDITOR. Snt,— May I be permitted to draw the attention of your Waipa readers to the need that exists in these parts for a first-class draught stallion. Ido not wish to cast any reflection on the stallions that travel about the Waipa, but it is generally admitted that although our choice of blood stock is both good and extensive, a real good draught is not to be had ; and a proof of this has been shown during the past season by owners of mares sending them right across the country to Fencourt to obtain the services of a good stallion. The time has gone by when breeding interior horses, either light or heavy will pay, and admitting this it seems absurd that with the large number of well-bred draught mares to be found about Hamilton and the Waipa, no high-class stallion is available. I would suggest that a few farmers coinbine and canvass the Waipa to ascertain what support would be given if such an animal were imported into the district. I feel convinced that a full list of mares could be obtained without difficulty, and with such a guarantee in hand, some of our local men would not be afraid to plank down tho money for a real good horse. In any case it is a matter which requires attention. I need scarcely add that I will gladly assist in support of the project, and I think I could cat ten mares in my own immediate neighbourhood.—-I am, &o. E. C. Hhbi'hkkd. Whatawhata, May 7th, 1800. P.S.—There is a meeting of the Hamilton branch of the Farmers' Club, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, the 10th, and it would, after the ordinary busino«s is disposed of, bo a good opportunity to discuss the matter.
