(by telkgkaph—press association.) Wellington, Last Night. The cable steamer Scotia, arrived at the outer anchorage this morning, and took the pilot on board and started for Wakapuaka.
The toll Rate question was ventilated in the appeal Court this afternoon, when the point was argued whether the Hutt County Council hud the right to erect toll Rates, and collect tolls. The Bench decided against the Council. A full cabinet meeting was held to-day, when the various measures to be submitted to Parliament were discussed.
The postal reductions proposed by the Imperial Government were also considered. The members of the Cabinet expressed an opinion that the was one for Parliament to decide, but in view of the heavy loss that would result to the colony by adopting the proposals the Cabinet decided that they could not recommend Parliament to accept them.
The land taken up in the colony during April was : Cash land, 7,!)1S acres; deferred payments, 5,585 acres; perpetual leases, 27,037 acres. Total, 40,470 acres.
