The capital of the proposed co-operative butchery at Wellington is fixed at £10,000, in 20,000 shares of 10s each; and the number of shares each person can take up is limited.

A movement is on foot in Cambride to got the Queen's biithday holiday hold on Monday, the 2Gth inst, instead of on Saturday tho 24th. This will be an improvement, as it will givo employees from the Saturday evening till the Tuesday morning. The reconstruction of No. 5 Bath at Te Aroha was commenced some time ago, under the superintendence of Mr Crump, engineer to tho Domain Board. The bath is now completed, and available for use. The temperature is about equal to that of No. G Bath; and will, no doubt, become popular with the visitors.

A.t the Hamilton Wesleyan Church on Sunday morning last tho Rev. Mr Lawry preached an excellent discourse on " Freedom from Sin." As this " holiness " question is one of tho burning religious questions of the day, much interest was taken in his remarks. In the evening he preached on "Christ an all-sufficient Saviour," to a full congregation. The Weslcyans of Hamilton are very fortunate in having a minister of such abilities as the Rev. Mr Lawry. We understand that he is a very eloquent and able preacher.

We understand that the past month has been the busiest one on the railway for the past three years. The amount of produco sent to Auckland has been enormous, potatoes and wheat being sent from the main Te Awamutu line, and wheat chiefly from the Cambridge branch. As an instance of what traffic has passed along the Cambridge branch, we may say that last week 00 trucks of wheat were sent away, there not being less than six tons in each truck. That would mean about 3,000 bags of wheat that have gone to Auckland After that it is no use the Auckland millers saying they cannot make good flour of Waikato wheat.

At the meeting of those interested in tho fruit-growing industry held on Friday last, and which had been called by the Local Industries' Committee of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, it was resolved that immediate steps be taken to represent to the corporation that it is most desirable that the City Market be made .available for the disposal of country produce as an open mavkot, as is customary in the provincial towns in the Old Country. The Local Industries' Cnmmittee are to meet the Mayor and councillors on the subject, and as the Market-house is to be offered for lease by auction on Friday next, immediate action is to be taken.

Much credit is due to Mr John Abbott, of Anckland, for his praisewerthy action in soliciting the help of the benevolently inclined towards establishing an institution for mitigating the misfortune of those affected with blindness. Without making any systematic! canvas he has succeeded in collecting the sum of £58 los Gd, and in his letter on the subject he says : — " The cheerful and hearty manner in which the sums were donated shows conclusively how intense th 3 feelings and how strong the sympathisers are for those of our fellow creatnres'who are afflicted with blindness." We shall bo glad to receivo donations to help forward the above worthy object.

A meeting of the ratepayers of the Cambridge Road District was held at Cambridge on Saturday, when, by dint of a little .skirmishing in the street, a quorum of sis was at last obtained, of which four were members of the Road Board. The balancesheet was read, but ax ic had not yet been audited, it could not therefore be signed by the Chairman of the Koad Board. Mr Booth said the road near his house needed gravelling, and, as there was no other business, those present indulged in a little "chaff," and then separated. The ratepayers must be well satisfied at the manner in which their interests are looked after, oi they would not be so indifferent. Time was when the ratepayers' meetings were of rather a stormy character, and lasted the whole afternoon ; and, indeed, we believe there was once a proposition that the meeting should be continued on through the night. Nowadays we leave that sort of thing to our Parliamentary representatives.
