TE AROHA.

Town Board.—The ordinary meeting of the Town Board was held on Wednesday last, there being present: Commissioner Gallagher (chairman), and Commissioners Lipsey, Mills, and Harris. The minutes of the ordinary meeting held on the Sth day of March were rei'd and confirmed. The report from the poundkeeper was read, also forwarding los Od, amount of commission due to tlie Board to date. Commissioner Mills, who had given notice at a previous meeting, moved, •' That the office of the Town Board be removed from the Clerk's residence to Mr E. Gallagher's office, Whitakerstreet. An amendment was moved by Commissioner Harris, that the Board rent au office in soine public place. The amendment was lost, and the chairman declared Commissioner [Mills' motion carried. Comissioner Harris, who had also given notice of a resolution lie intended to move at this meeting, withdrew the same with the sanction of the chairman. A letter was read from Mr J. Dare, tendering his resignation as Inspector of Nuisances, and collector of the dog tax. Mr Dare's resignation was accepted with regret, and the Clerk was instructed to post notices about the town, inviting applications for the position of Inspector of Nuisances and collector of dog tax. An account for £112s, due to Mr F. O'Toole, was passed for payment.

Finn.— A fire causing the total destruction of Berger's candle extinguisher factory took place on Saturday afternoon, at 5 p.m., after the employees had all left for their homes. The fire was fiist noticed by Air R. Brennan, who immediately rushed into the building, and with the assistance of people who immediately congregated in the neighbourhood, removed the greater part of the plant, At one time there were some t fears for the safety of the Hot Springs Hotel, but fortunately there was no wind, and the firo was confined to the one building. Neither building, plant, or stook were insured.
