THE TE AROHA ELECTORATE.

DEPUTATION TO MR CHEPMELL. A deputation consisting of Messrs Clements, Jas. Hally, Merrick, Thompson,

A deputation consisting of Messrs Clements, Jas. Hally, Merrick, Thompson, Hewitt, Fawcett, Bach, Masters, Collins, Westney, Bond, Dickenson, Davies, Boyce, Craig, and Tuck, waited upon Mr W. I J . Chepmell, at Cambridge, yesterday, at noon, to endeavour to induce him to contest the Te Aroha electorate. Mr Clements

was spokesman, and asked Mr Chepmell to allow himself to bo nominated, and he believed the whole of those present would pledge themselves to do their utmost to get him returned. He (Mr Chepmell) had been a long time in the district, and was well known to them all. They knew ho was a man of few words, but what he said ho meant, and they thought he would make a fitting representative. Mr Chepmell said he was thankful to them for the confidence they appeared to place in him, but he could not give an answer off-hand in a new district such as Te Aroha. There were many conflicting interests and many questions that he would require to carefully consider. If he did stand, and should he be returned, he need not say he would do his best for tho electorate, but not to the detriment of other parts of the colony. He would give a definite answer in a fortnight if that would meet with their approval. The deputation expressed their approval of Mr Chepmell's reply, and the meeting closed.
