INTERPROVINCIAL.
(by tkdhguapk.—pkkss association.) INVERCARGILL, Last Night. At the nautical inquiry into tbe wreck of the Emilie, evidence was given that the vessel was iu a very bad condition.
It is reported that good gold prospects have been obtained on Maitlaod Island, near the Preservation Inlet, the scene of a recent field.
It is intended to give the three surveyors of the barque Emilie a kit consisting of a donation of a few pounds apiece, and, if possible, to find them berths when they are able to resume their duties.
At the inquest of the late mate cf the Emilie evidence, as to the condition of the vessel was stopped, because it was stated that an inquiry would be held today. Mr Borrie, collector of Customs, informed the Nautical Court, before whom the euquiry is going ou, that the vessel being foreign owned, section 3 ot Shipping and Act, would not apply, and was questionable whether the inquiry was legal, and it was only held because all the evidence regarding the wreck had not been taken by the coroner at the inquest on the mate, when the coroner had full power to go into all circumstances of the case.
