LABOUR QUESTION.

Vienna, April 11. Strikes have occurred in many trades, the operatives demanding eight hours labour and an increasu of 50 per cent, in their wages. Bix hundred Vienna unions will hold a demonstration on May Ist, advocating eight hours. London, April 11. Three hundred thousand members of Trade Unions, Radical Clubs, and Friendly Societies will hold a demonstration in Hyde Park on May 4th, in favour of the eight hours' labour. The London Trades and Labour Council have resolved to ignore the Chamber of Commerce, and leave Trades Unions and employers to settle their .own disputes. It has also agreed to allow delegates from femal unions to become members of the Council. April 13. The Midland colliery owners having conceded -10 per cent, increase to the miners, the leaders of the strike discourage any further agitation being carried on until Christmas. The master bootmakers insist that the wages dispuce shall be referred to arbitration. Berlin, April 13. The non-Socialists Unionists of Germany have decided to co-operate in the eight hours demonstration in May. The employees of the Austrian Government and many of the German factories have been threatened with dismissal if they take part in the May labour celebrations. Paris, April 11. Despite the order of M. Constans forbidding a demonstration on May 1 in favour of eight hours' labour, the Socialists are determined to parade the streets with 200,000 men on that day. Nkw York, April 13. The carpenters have given notice that they intend to go out on strike on May Ist, demanding eight hours' labour.
