ACCIDENT AT THE TUNNEL.

One of the hands working in the Poro-o-torau tunnel, named Thomas Wilson, was brought down to the Hospital, by yesterday morning's train, suffering from contused wounds on the face and head, and a broken leg. Wilson was engaged removing the wooden frame work in the tannel, which is used to support the brick work, whilst in course of construction, and was alone at the time of the accident and when discovered he was insensible, in which state he remained for fully half-an-hour after being picked up. He supposes that he must have slipped from the scaffolding, falling a distance of about ten feet, and that the loose timbers fell upon him, breaking his leg and otherwise injuring him. His mates carried him several miles on a stretcher, to where they could pick up a trolly, on which hp. was conveyed to Te Awainntu in time to catch the train. The injuries are not of a serious nature, the fracture of the leg being a simple one.
