BIG FLOODS IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Twenty-six years ago I was in a flood on the Darling, all the country above Burke being under water for thirteen weeks, the water in soma places measuring 100 miles in width. The loss of stock at that time was enormous, although the country was only lightly stocked and recently settled ; but. fortunately, there was no loss of human lifo. From all I can read the present downpour of rain far exceeds the one at the time I mention, and the floods are likely to be far more disastrous, as the country is now fully stocked and largely settled. The water coming from Queensland down the Balloo, I believe it is called, overflows, and flows down the River Narrau, emptying into the Narrau Plain, converting that plain into a lake from SO to 100 miles in width. Another branch is the Bokara, which empties into the Darling near Biriewarrena; another in the Berie which again joins the Culoga and then empties into the Darling another is the Ouloga which takes its waters from the Balloo flowing through the level country for 100 miles or so, and joins the Birie, s» you will see these form a complete network of rivers, and if the flood is as I anticipate we may expect to hear of heavy losses of stock and probably loss of life as it is impossible to escape, there is no high land or boats to come to the rescue. The first real flood since the country was opened was in 1842, the next in 1804 and now 1890 and as the country becomes settled Sach one will be more disastrous, it is likely the flood will take two or three weeks yet to roach the localities I have mentioned, and should the Bogan, McQuarrie, and Barwan be in flood at- f.ha aa inn t-i.rio InnL-mif. fn>< snakes.

I am, etc. Sam. P.S. Four months from now tho flood will reach Wentworth on the Murray.
