In some cases the following figures must be regarded, as only approximating closely to thfi year's operations. There is a deficit of fifty thousand in the CustoiTiß, but in the railways there is a large profit in excess of the'profit'made last ;year. In the Property Tax Department ' the Treasurer's estimate has been fully realised, The stamp duties have also yielded the estimated amount. I believe one estate alone has paid succession duty to the amount of £17,000. The greatest profits on the railway last year were £370,000. This year the Commissioners expect to have from £405,000 to £410,000. On the first of March they had £50,000 profit in"excess of what was realised last year (ISBS-9.) The Customs returns up to last night were, as compared with the corresponding period last year, for March, 1890, £123,587, as against February, 1890, £143,030,.and as against £128,377 received for March, 1890. The following shows the local contributions, of the Customs for the past month at tho four chief centres :— Auckland £25,585 Wellington 20,400 Ohristehnrch 21,591 Dunedin ... 22,G9(i The beer duty shows an excess of £5,902. The total proceeds for the year were £53,9G'2 (is 4d, and the Treasurer had put down the expected receipts at £50,000. Last month's total was £5,353 lls 2d, towards which Auckland contributed £1,047 19k 5d ; Wellington, £522 2a ; Christchurch, £»88; Dunedin, £1,389 13s 9d.

The total Customs revenue for Ihe financial year was £i,;"> 07,027. The Colonial Treasurer's estimate was £1,050,000. The Railway Commissioners anticipate a profit for the year of about 3percent on the cost of the lines.
