Whatawhata Races. The Whatawhuta Racing Club held their annual race meeting yesterday. 'It was largely attended by parsons from all parts of the district the larger proportion of whom were Maoris. Mr E. M. Dickey acted as starter and gave thorough satisfaction. Several slight accidents occurred during the day but luckily no' one was seriously injured. The weather was very favourable, a cool breeze blowing all day. The following are the names of the winners of the various events.: HANDICAP HUUDLK RACK. Native ... ... ■'■' 1 Clover 2 Jack ... 3 There were seven starters for this event. Jack went off at the lead and retained his place for one round, when he was passed by Native, who won by several lengths, Clover being sscond. Doctor fell at the sncond hurdle, throwing his rider heavily. . MAIDEN PL.VTK. Cyptus 1 Bella ... 2 Friar Girl 3 Only four started for this race. Cyptus got away at the start and won easily. WHATAWHATA HANMMCAP. Bob ... 1 Contempt . 2 Bella ... 3 Six horses faced the starter, who, after a little delay, gut them off well together. Bob took the load and was never afterwards caught, winning easily. SETTLERS BACK. Bella 1 Glengarry 2 Flaxjamuier 3 Only throe started.Bella won by a couple of lengths. MAORI WAHINE RACE. Mormon ... ... ... ... 1 Four horses started. Mormon got a bad etart, but soon took the load, and won as he liked. PONT RACE. Tit Bits ... 1 Black Besß 2 Contempt 3 Four started. Tit Bits won hard held. CONSOLATION BACK. Contempt 1 Clipperina 2 Jack the Kipper 3 Fisherman also ran.
