TE AWAMUTU.
Children's' Picnic.—The annual picnic of the children of the various Sunday-schools throughout the district was held as usual in the parsonage grounds on the 7th inst. This picnic is not by any means a denominotional one or confined to Sunday-school children—though nominally a school picnic —for children and indeed adults of every denomination in the country attend, and are heartily welcomed by the Rev. Mr Boler, Mrs Boler, and other ladies and gentleman who assist in promoting it. At an early hour the children began to assemble, coming from all parts in buggies, traps, and waggons. Over three hundred children attended, which shows how popular this annual re-union is with the little ones, and indeed with the adults also, for they attended in fair numbers too. Ladies in the various districts undertook the work I of collecting subscriptions and providing food, and they wer« thoroughly successful for notwithstanding the great number to provide for, there was an ample supply, indeed some was loft. Sp'>rM were held in the afternoon and prizes given for eauh event, in fact, so numerous were Iho prizes sent in that the evonts had to be doubled in order to get rid of the large stock. Messrs Bertram, Dixon, and Vause took charge of the sports and gave entire satisfaction. That the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves was quite evident from the cheers they gave and the songs they sang as they were being driven home. Three cheers were called for the ladies and gentlemen who assisted, and three for Mr and Mrs Boler, which were heartily responded to by the youngsters.
