CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL

Thk ordinary monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr Priestly), Councillors Webber, Young, Bond, and Hally. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Rink.—Messrs Chambers', and Souter wrote wrote applying for the use of the Public Hall for rinking purposes. It was decided to grant the application, upon the same terms as formerly. The Mails.—The chief postmaster at Auckland wired that the question of the mails being delivered earlier, o,n the days on which it is driven through from Hamilton, would receive due consideration.— The Mayor had written to him on the matter. Finance.—Overdraft on February 11th, £441 16s; amounts paid during month, £108 0s Id ; amounts lodged during month, £19 6s j accounts to pass for payment, £22 lis Id ; Overdraft when accounts are paid, £553 Is 2d. Legal limit of overdraft, £557 9s lOd. The amount of revenue received up to the present is £01912s Bd, and between this and the end of the financial year, the 31st instant, it is probable £50 more will come in. The total receipts last year were £557 9s lOd, about £112 less than this year. Works. —The Works Committee reported that the surfaceman had been employed 15 days. A sumph in Bower-street comploted and the road repaired. A large sumph in Chapelrstreet had been cleaned out, the Karapiro bridge repaired, and ; several culverts and drains about the townships had been cleansed. PUBLIC Hall. —It was resolved to charge the Waikato Farmers' Club 7s (id for the use of the Public Hall on the occasion of Professor Thomas' lecturo, that being the bare cost of lighting, etc. Gravelling.—The Works Committee were requested to report at the next meeting of the Council, upon the necessary quantity of gravelling required for the ensuing season. Accounts. —The following accounts were passed for payment : J. P. Thomson, £10 10s ; H. Preece, £3 15s ; J. Meredith, £2 8s ; J. Hally, £2 2s ; W. Souter and Co., £112s 4d ; T. Marshall, £2 3s 9d. This closed the business.
