The composition of the Australian uleveu has been altered, Burne, of Tasmania, and McLeod, of Melbourne, replaciug Dcauo and Bonnor, respectively, March J 2, Owiug to the floods the railway lines are blocked in various directions. Kcmpsey and Smithtown. situated on the Maclean river, are underwater, the latter to a depth of 12 feet. Boats aud river steamers have been engaged in rescuing residents, and fully three hundred per sons took refuge on a dredge, in the lower Macleay. All the townships aleng the banks of the Richmond river are, flooded, and Grafton is inundated. The Water is still rising, but as yet no fatalities are reported. Mukuourne, March 10. A conference to inquire into the cause of the ravages by red rust iu wheat crops has opened. It has been arranged to hold a series of experiments throughout the colonies simultaneously. Hobart, March 12. Admiral Scott denies the truth of the statement that he had expressed an opinion that the Australian cruisers in the course of cou.-truction were too small.
