AUCKLAND ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

(BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT). Auckland Last Night. Ac the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society held yesterday, the chairman said: " During tho year a number of trout were hatched in the Domain, and subsequently distributed in suitable streams, such as those flowing into tho upper Thames, near Oxford, also the Pokai, Whenua, and other tributaries of the Waikato river and in the tributaries of the Waipa river, near Otorohanga, a few trout were also placed in Lake Takapuna. Thanks to the care and attentiou of Mr Cliff, and to the courteous facilities granted by the Railway Department, all the fish arrived at thrnr destination in a healthy condition. One caught recently in the Waikato River weighed Slbs. The Society regretted that this year females of the rainbow trout had failed to mature healthy ova, in consequence of this failure 10,000 brown trout ova had been obtained from Otaeo, and were hatched with, but a small percentage of loss, but the recent hot weather caused some mortality amongst the fry, as the water became heated before it reached tho ponds. The rainbow trout are not nearly so susceptible to extremes of temperature, and consequently do better. A small parcel of brook trout ova was obtained from the South, but it is evident this climate is too warm for the healthy rearing of that beautiful fish.
