(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, List Night. The cost of the toll gates which were demolished at Ngaiiranga, last night, wae i'2o. The Fl'utt County Council" are determined not to be out-done, and the inspector of works has instructions to proceed with the erection of new gates at once. A police officer was despatched to Ngauranga. to-day, but as far as can bo learned he did not succeed in eliciting anything likely to lead to the conviction of the offenders. Two informations were laid today by the Council, one against some persons unknown, and the other against Messrs Haseldeu and Thompson, solicitors, who spoke at last night's meeting, ami are charged with inciting for the destruction of the gate. A deputation which waited on the Colonial Secretary this afternoon, asked him his view* on the general subject of toll gates, but Mr Russell said he had never considered the subject. He informed them the new Borouph of Onslow would ba gazetted as soon as possible. The young man, Jansen, has been committed for trial for the museum burglary.
